This paper records, in detail, the environmental history of James Madison University, beginning with its founding in 1908. Includes a history and descriptions of the campus gardens (rose, sculpture, arboretum), Black's Run stream, Newman Lake, and the CISAT campus. Current efforts to create and maintain an attractive environment are also mentioned. Supplemental documentation includes: an addendum by Chris Bolgiano, Nov. 2000; Centennial Commission recommendation on a proposed environmental learning campus, Elizabeth Ihle, spring 1999; and copies of various other documents from: R.C. Dingledine's "Madison College: the first 50 years, 1908-1958," two president's reports (1929-30), and an inventory of land owned by Madison College, 1955.
